Photography

The first one is simple. However, many people, including myself, overlook the home photography options. Before I saw videos on indoor photography, I did not believe what is possible, and because at home, time is your ally, you can embellish the scene to perfection.

I know for us our interior is sometimes a dull environment with familiar things. On the other side for other people, your home is an unknown environment, and you can focus on many elements like your furniture, little building details, portraits in assorted clothes, meals, crafts, etc. I also found some highly professional fashion product photos made at home using only daylight and a bowl full of water.

Very popular are also events like Halloween, Christmas, or Thanksgiving. Here you can focus on your decoration or share photographs of your family enjoying these events.

What is good to have?

  • Basic photography knowledge (You will find it all over the internet, nothing is worse than photographies destroyed by wrong camera settings)t
  • Artificial light (Daylight can be tricky, so if you do not want to rely on luck and one light source, get artificial light like a led lamp, softbox, or even Christmas lights and neon tape.
  • Tripod (In many situations convenient solution)
  • Time (For good photographies you will need him a lot, especially if you are a beginner)

Teaching

A very popular activity during coronavirus pandemic or rather the only way to educate during covid-19. However, homeschooling was on a great level years before, and you can learn almost anything on the internet.

Do not worry; teaching is not so hard, and everybody has something to teach. If you have the skill which you are improving for one year and more you can definitely teach someone, for example cooking recipes or language.

What is good to have?

  1. The first variant is streaming and video creating. This form requires some knowledge about video and microphones with cameras. (more below)
  2. More classical and often overlooked is teaching via text. Whereas this variant is not so interactive and engaging, it has many benefits in the field of comprehensibility.

Where?

Video

  1. Zoom – in past years most popular platform for streaming educating content with direct interaction of your students
  2. Udemy/Skillshare – Great platforms for courses. Just record, edit, upload and then sell your course
  3. Youtube – The biggest unofficial free educational platform on the internet. Same the procedure as above in Udemy/Skillshare

Text

  1. WikiHow – the website full of step by step instructions and advice. Joining WikiHow is pretty easy, so almost everybody can make articles
  2. Your website – making your own website to teach people is the most popular variant for education through text

Streaming

Nowadays, streaming is basically for every type of content. Most popular are game streams, live events, and IRL content. However, if you do any catchy craft and have stable internet, people will be interested.

The hardest part is setting your stream properly and broadcast regularly, although only for a few viewers. If you want to jump into a pool of streamers, also check twice if you have enough time because longer streams are more effective and attract more viewers.

On the other hand, if you are famous for something else, streaming is a pleasant diversion for your fan base, and regular short streams are better than nothing. This short format suits well to podcasts.

What is required?

  • Stable and Fast Internet (There is nothing more frustrating than laggy and intermittent streams in low resolution)
  • Device to Run a Stream (Notebook, PC, tablet, or even mobile)
  • Streaming Software (OBS Studio, Nvidia Shadowplay, Streamlabs OBS)

What is good to have?

  • Content (I am not telling you to have strict content. However, consistent content from which people know what to expect is better then do everything all over the place)
  • (Web)Camera (Great for interaction, it is a standard today)

Platforms

  • Twitch (Pioneer in the field of streaming)
  • Youtube (The largest platform on our list)
  • Instagram (IRL streaming for your friends and audience)
  • TikTok (Fresh platform for short clips and IRL streaming)

Video Recording

Very similar activity to the previous one with the difference that the video recording is not live. Video recording is today’s standard, and it is replacing text form because the information from videos is more comfortable to absorb.

Video creation is simpler than ever because almost every device for a few dollars can record full HD or even 4K video. Thanks to large platforms like YouTube with a lot of users, you can focus on the content you like and still attract many people, mostly if you speak English. So, if you have a craft to show, just record it. This will help you show off and maybe earn some money too.

What do you need?

  • Camera (This device is obviously a key to a recording. You can use your mobile at the beginning)
  • Editing Software (publish un-edited content looks really amateurish. There is a lot of free editing software on the market)
  • Content (If you are not publishing some random videos. The content structure, sometimes with the scenario and video content sketches, is priceless)
  • Platform (Choose the right platform for your content. Between most famous belongs YouTube, Vimeo, and even TikTok with Instagram)

Blogging

One of the oldest concepts on the internet. Making a blog is popular until today because it brings elements that other media hardly replaces, for example, complete orientation in the content.

The blog can be created by everyone with almost non-content restrictions, and it is definitely less expensive than many other hobbies. However, this activity is very time-consuming. You need to be a master of the written word with catching content and trust me here when I say that the text form has to try much more challenging to attract attention.

If you search for a blogging platform, the best way is to create your own website because there is no prominent place where all bloggers are accumulating.

What is good to have?

  • Grammar & Spelling (You need to be a master of the written word; otherwise, it is very painful to read your blog)
  • Content (Even worse then Grammar & Spelling is to not have a well designed and attention-catching content)
  • Fast typing (Own these techniques. It will save you a lot of time)

Game Designing

Maybe these two words scare away a lot of people. Nonetheless, game designing is a very rewarding hobby, and if you are a man of many disguises or you have a team of inflamed people, you should try it. Furthermore, game designing is not as complicated as it used to be.

Nowadays, you can use professionally developed engines for free, like Unreal Engine or Unity. You can also use thousands of pre-created assets or easily find an assistant programmer or an additional artist.

Founding your gaming project is easier than ever, and companies like Devolvers Digital will help you from the early beginning. So, if you have creative ideas and want to create your own world go for it because game designing is one of the most unique and rewarding hobbies out there.

What do you need?

  • At least one creative hobby (If you want to create your own game just by you or a small team, it is almost essential to do art, animating, programming, or designing because without these four categories is the whole process even more complicated)
  • Powerful PC or Laptop (These days, all games are created on powerful desktop devices. Future is in mobiles. However, even if you are designing a game for mobile, you will still need a PC or Laptop)
  • Game Engine (Choose the right game engine or make yours. The most prominent are Unity and Unreal Engine, or you can choose a simpler engine, for example, GameMaker)
  • Dedication (Could sound like a cliché. However, making a game is time-consuming, and if you have not experienced a confusing experience. Nonetheless, the reward is priceless)

Drawing and Painting

These two things are involved in many previous categories. Let us discuss them separately. Drawing and painting are favorite activities of many creatives because it brings freedom into your mind. A lot of people want to draw and paint. However, they are too scared of this craft.

So, if you are one of these, read Drawing on the right side of the brain. This book will help you to see and draw precisely. It will also unlock your right hemisphere.

If you are a draftsman or painter, you can focus on many things in many industries and make money on everything from selling your paintings by creating digital assets to monetizing your content on media.

What do you need?

  1. Paper and Pencil (Of course, you will move onto digital tablets with styluses or canvases. However, these two are foundation)
  2. Unlocking your Right Hemisphere (Drawing with the left hemisphere is like turning pancakes with your bare hand. Therefore, it is somehow possible, however unspeakably painful and ineffective)

Crafting Accessories

Making accessories is a fun hobby with a minimum to medium investment. On today’s market, you can find many sites orientating on selling your DIY accessories, for example, Etsy.

Crafting accessories could be taken as an additional hobby that will make you no money. Nonetheless, nowadays, the majority of people are focused on university professions and office work for which the number of craftsmen is diminishing; therefore, their work is well paid.

What is good to have?

  • Product (Not a surprise, the desired product is key to craftsman success)
  • Knack (These types of work requiring great coordination of your head with your hands and patience)
  • Input Capital (The material is not for free)

Daily Posting

You can ask me why this activity is on our list. It is because posting becomes part of society, and like everything else, also this could be a hobby. Daily posting of your content can make you famous, and you can earn money from it.

What is best with Daily posting on social media is that it does not have restrictions or does not need to know particular skills. All you need to know is how to upload on social media. You can post memes, paintings, characters, photos, facts, news, etc. The list is endless.

What do you need?

  • Determination (Post something everyday songs easily. Nonetheless, do not be fooled. It requiring a lot of time and dedication)
  • Content (There is no posting without content)

Book Writing

Writing a book is a long process with many obstacles in a way, and the end of the journey is not money rewarding because authors are not paid as well as almost all hobbies on our list. However, writing a book is a self-realization journey full of many creative ideas and melancholy memories. The reward for you should be the joy and educating of people who will read your book.

In terms of equipment, it is pretty easy to start. However, a blank page is a nightmare for some people, especially for those who have a syndrome called “blank page syndrome.” Where people just sit sitting over a blank sheet of notebook and do nothing, just thinking.

What is good to have?

  • Initial Idea (You should know from the beginning where you want to take your readers)
  • Time (The book writing is a time-consuming process, so if you do not have even one hour a day, think twice if you want to start)
  • Writing Skills (It is always better to have strong vocabulary and know grammar well because thanks to that, you can express your ideas more precisely and you will spend less money on proofreaders)
  • Story to Tell (I know, many of us want to write a book. However, think twice if you have the capacity to give people something extraordinary or you should wait a few years)
  • Digital device (Many authors write on a paper notebook until today. Nonetheless, notebook, tablet with keyboard, or desktop computer will simplify the whole process so much for you)
